A simplified bicycle in motion

A bicycle is a fascinating vehicle: when it stands still it falls over, and when it moves it stays upright. Three- and four-wheelers are also stable when they stand still, and this comes with very different riding properties. We explain the dynamics of the bicycle by addressing four different topics:

  1. A riding bicycle is stable
  2. The faster and the heavier, the more stable
  3. Cornering
  4. Countersteering
